Political Change - Trying Tolerance

I've been watching all the political chaos and rhetoric intensify in the last month and I must say I’m really disheartened and disappointed with what I've witnessed.  I've seen a lot of mudslinging, name calling and belief bashing and this was NOT by the politicians.  Oh sure they did it,  but heck they’re politicians we expect them to sink to these kind of levels.   However, the people I noticed participating in these behaviors were friends and acquaintances  who are normally pretty intelligent,  tolerant people.  But get them involved in a conversation discussing some of the “hot topics”  this campaign stirred up and  I didn't even  recognize some of them.  There were several times I read my Twitter and FB  posts just to come away shaking my head shocked at the ugly tone and spirit I witnessed.   To be honest there are some people for whom I've really lost respect.  Instead of showing a spirit of tolerance and consideration a lot of people chose to be condemnatory,  judgmental, and downright vicious.  I  am  so relieved this campaign has come to a conclusion bringing with it  an end to all the intolerance and disrespectful judgments - or will it?

What’s going to happen the NEXT time there’s a difference of opinion.   Is the person with the unpopular belief  going to be crucified  and hung out to dry by those that disagree with them?   Or if there’s a discussion with a particular political slant (whatever that may be)  are the people in the discussion going to attack and verbally eviscerate each other because they simply don’t hold the same values or ideals   I guess I’m confused because I THOUGHT that’s what all this outcry for equality for EVERYONE was about.  I thought it was about each of us showing tolerance for other people and ideas different than our own.   I haven’t seen a lot of tolerance from either political side. Yet when there was  some great “social” ceiling broken through, everyone wanted  to celebrate and raise their glasses to the underdog.  Which is confusing because when less popular or “politically correct” topics were discussed there wasn't  a lot of  tolerance shown.  But let’s change that.

The next time when a discussion ensues we can  remember to ask ourselves if  we are  expressing ourselves in a manner that is respectful and  in a  way we would want someone to discuss an issue with us.   Are we disagreeing with the idea or are we showing contempt for the person’s belief?   If it’s the later,  then a lesson in tolerance is definitely needed.  To be honest  I’m sure we could all stand to have a refresher course.

*Tolerance vs. Prejudice

Accepting others at different levels of maturity

*The "I Wills" of Tolerance

  • I will not confuse what is right with what is popular
  • I will expect the same of myself as I expect of others
  • I will look for ways to help others mature
  • I will accept my own unchangeables and the unchangeables of others
  • I will listen before I form an opinion

* From Character First a wonderful program that teaches the importance of being a person of good character.

Fall Already?

I have NO clue where the time has gone and I know I have been horrible about keeping up with this darn blog.   Don't get me wrong  it's not that difficult and I'm sure I have plenty  I could say or discuss.  I just tend to forget it exists.  Of course isn't that always the way,  the things we WANT to remember we don't and those thoughts we would like to never think about again are always there!   Anyway ...  I'm sharing a few shots from this season.  I'm having some issues with my depth of field on my camera so I'm not as happy with them as I had hoped I would be.  If  anyone wants to give me a late birthday present and buy me the latest greatest professional Canon you could even send it to me anonymously,  maybe from a secret admirer.  I'd even provide you my P.O. Box from work!  You are thinking about it aren't you!  Go ahead just go shopping and make my MONTH heck that would make my year!  *laughing and winking*

Okay, enough of my rambling here are a few shots.

“Vintage”

I was out with my camera and found a bit of history from our little town. I thought it might make an interesting subject and I wasn't the only one interested in the old engine.  As I was shooting, a couple of young boys came and decided to check out my subject too.   Guess some things never change huh and boys will always be drawn to fire trucks – no matter how old. A Sneak Peak of “A Fall of Water” by Elizabeth Hunter

While waiting for spring I had the chance to read the Elemental Series by Elizabeth Hunter. She is a fellow Fan Fiction writer, who has turned her talent towards  original work.  As much as I loved her writing on FanFic, I wondered how in the world she was going to create a new group of vampires which were fresh and intriguing.   Well  let me say she did JUST that.   Her characters are rich and we immediately are drawn into their plight and struggle.   Lucky for all of us the final “chapter” to this great series will be available in a few short weeks,  June 5, 2012.

Below is an except from the last book of the series, “A Fall of Water”.   I can’t wait to see what happens next with Gio and Beatrice hope  I'll see you in line at Amazon on June 4th say around midnight.

September 2011

“How could you?” She threw him into the face of the cliff, tossing him as if he weighed nothing when he finally caught up with her on the road back to the valley.
He shook his head and wiped a trickle of blood from his nose. “He was old.  He was going to die within a few weeks, Beatrice.”
She paced back and forth in the small clearing.  “But I didn’t need to be the one to kill him.” Streaks of tears marred her perfect white skin.  The rain beat down on them and the wind whipped through the small pass.
Giovanni tried to speak in a low calming voice.  “You broke out of the bloodlust much quicker than I had imagined.  You’re doing very well.”
“But I still killed him, Gio! I did.  And you stood there and let me.  You stood by and let me kill that old man doing nothing more than sitting in his garden!”
Giovanni stood slowly, still keeping his distance.  “If he had been in good health, you would not have killed him.  But he was sick, Tesoro. Surely you must have tasted it in his blood.  He was in pain.  Your amnis calmed him as you drank.  He felt nothing.”
She screamed and pulled at her hair.  “How could you let me kill him?”
“It was a mercy.”
“No!” she yelled and rushed him, knocking him over and pummeling his face.  She loosed her rage on her mate until he grabbed her hands.  He could barely contain her; Beatrice had become almost immeasurably strong.  “Why? Why did you let me murder him?”
With a surge, he rolled over until she was laying under him, sobbing in the rain as the bloody tears ran down her face and into the mud.
“This is why!  Do you understand?  Look at me, Beatrice.”  Giovanni finally caught her narrowed eyes, and she bared her teeth at him.  “Look at me and listen right now!  Did I let you kill that old man?  Yes, and I’ll tell you why.”
He took a softer hand and brushed at the tears that stained her cheeks.  “Because one day, very soon, it’s not going to be a sick stranger in a garden who tempts you.” He sat back and pulled her up in front of him, as the rain beat on their heads.
“Someday very soon, it’s going to be Benjamin.  Or your grandmother.  Or Caspar or Dez or Matt.  It’s going to be someone you love.  An innocent stranger on a train or walking down the street at night.  And the temptation is going to knock you over and every instinct in you is going to be screaming to take and drink and not to stop because there is nothing in the human world more powerful than you.  Do you understand what I’m saying?”  He grabbed the collar of her soaked overcoat and pulled her closer.  She still stared at him with sullen, tear-filled eyes as he continued. “Do you? Because when that moment comes, I want you to remember how you feel right now, Beatrice.  I want you to remember this moment for the rest of your existence because that is what will keep the humans around you safe from the monster who lives inside you.  Who lives inside all of us.”
Her eyes were dull as she stared at him.  Her hands lay limp at her sides.
“I hate you.”
“I love you.”

Getting Back to the “Elements”

WaterCoverJPGsmall
The fourth book in Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental Mysteries Series, “A Fall of Water”,  is almost here and I for one can not wait.  It will be out June 5, 2012 and to be honest I am as excited about this as I was the new Charlaine Harris novel.  I can honestly recommend  Elizabeth Hunter’s series right up there with some of my favorites such as Night Huntress and most of the Southern Vampire Mysteries.  I can tell you I will be waiting for the electronic download the minute it becomes available and I recommend you do the same.  Below is a glimpse into this fascinating story.  Be sure to check it out,  I promise you won’t be disappointed

“No secret stays hidden forever.”
Still grieving from their loss in the far East, Giovanni Vecchio and Beatrice De Novo discover that for them, all roads really do lead to Rome. But nothing is quite as it seems in the Eternal City. Joined by Carwyn and Tenzin, unexpected clashes greet them almost immediately, and rivalries churn beneath the glittering facade of the old Roman court. They quickly realize that allies might be enemies, and ancient rivals could hold the key to a deadly secret.
Giovanni and Beatrice will be forced to call on old alliances, ancient power, and fierce cunning to survive for the eternity they both desire. Sometimes, finding the end means going back to the beginning. Fire, Earth, Wind, and Water finally meet with devastating results in the conclusion of the Elemental Mysteries.

Finding a Misplaced Muse

I'm so happy to FINALLY have chapter 16 of "Wind in Her Sails"  written, betad, and posted on Fan Fic.   It seems to have taken me forever to find the motivation to get back to writing.  I have no idea why unless unbeknownst to me I have experienced a Muse kidnapping.  Maybe someone (more likely some supernatural being) popped into my home and caught my poor Muse by surprise.   I'm not sure exactly how one would kidnap a Muse since I don't know how powerful they really are.   I don't know if the kidnapper would need a gunny sack or would they need only to bring a simple mason jar.  I want to believe that my Muse is all powerful and therefore immune to any simple kidnapper; even a supernatural one.  If that's the case then where did mine go for that period of time when writing even a simple plot seemed to escape me.  I have no idea.  Maybe this hasn't been a case of foul play but a case of a naughty little Muse who went adventuring.   In any case I'm glad to have her back and  hard at work.  I just hope she gives me a little warning before her next adventure.    Hey now that’s an idea for a story “The Misadventures of a Muse”.  *winking*  See I told ya she was back!

Fan Fiction Temporary Profile

In their great wisdom Fan Fic has decided to disable all the links on the profile pages so I am creating this page to share all those links. I'm so sorry about all this! Please email support@fanfiction.com to complain. Below is an exact copy WITH links of my fan fic profile.

Hi everyone I’m Char and live in the southwest (US). I work in the counseling field, but have an equally creative side. I discovered FF after I had finished all of the Twilight Saga books and was going through withdrawals. I had heard about True Blood and watched a bit, I liked the story line and LOVED the characters. When I discovered they were based on a book series, I had to read the first one. Well as they say the rest is history, and I fell in love with these wonderful characters. I love the relationship between Eric and Sookie, and being a hopeless romantic, I’ve devoured the SVM stories here. My only issue is that the writers don’t write fast enough! LOL

A few months ago I decided to take the plunge into writing, and even though I have a English degree, I haven’t written creatively for YEARS! So please be kind and patient. I would love to write more stories using characters from SVM and True Blood. I’ve also discovered some great writing with the Night Huntress series so who knows maybe I’ll go adventuring with Cat and Bones too. We'll just have to wait and see where the it leads.

I want to give all of you who take the time to review a big big hug. It is wonderful to see appreciation for all the work that goes into these stories. I take what you say very seriously and it matters a lot to me. So on that note, get yourself a big glass of sweet tea, sit back, and join me in a few adventures.

WIND IN HER SAILS

As I mentioned in my profile, I'm a really creative person and one of the ways I express that is through creating graphics. I have been doing this for over 5 years now, even teaching PSP classes and I have my own Yahoo group where I share my designs for Incredimail and tags. So I decided I had better create myself a banner. It's below please check it out. Once again thanks for all the support and reviews. I love ya guys!

Here is a "home" I choose for Eric. I can't see him in a suburban one. I had to pick something unique and spectacular. After all our viking is NOTHING if not unique!

Sorry all for not writing much. I feel like I'm letting you all down. I started finishing the last chapter for Letters from the Heart. But I only finished half the chapter when my Mom passed away last week. I don't know when I'm going to feel up to writing again and I feel like I'm letting you all down, but I know I have to get in the right frame of mind. So please don't give up on the stories or me. I promise I will finish them. I have to know what happens too...; )
Thanks
Char

Back at it...
Ok I'm back writing. I finished the last chapter for Letters and depending on feedback I might do an epilogue or finish it out with this chapter. I will start working on my other story right after I get the last chapter up for Letters. Thanks for all your support and kind words. You guys are the best. *Big hugs*

Well I have finally finished up a new chapter for Wind in Her Sails. I've been pulled every way it seems but after just putting my nose to the grind stone I'm about ready to send it to the Beta. So don't give up yet.
