Mud or Morals

You know I've sat back and I've watched facebook and Twitter-my friends, family and acquaintances during this whole debacle otherwise known as the 2016 election. I am just shocked and saddened by how many people who are normally rational kind people have let this circus bring out their most negative thoughts and actions in the need to be "right". The bottom line in this election is that the people of the US are going to be the losers. Neither candidate is the "Best" the US has to offer. But instead of looking at the facts on both sides everyone wants to get down in the dirt and sling mud.
If you want to know what's going on then DO THE HOMEWORK. Go to unbiased sites/info and look where the candidates stand then use some of the knowledge you learned in your high school civics class about  our checks and balances system . Somethings are not going to be overturned no matter how much we despise and hate them (abortion) Nor can one person make a law to overstep our rights. If you want to know the truth we will only get it  when the homework is done. Social media won't give it to you in a meme, slanted post, or a screaming rave.
We can find the info for ourselves we just have to be invested enough to look for it and then make an EDUCATED, INFORMED decision voting our our personal conscious. And when someone disagrees with you treat them with respect and agree to disagree. That's one of the greatest things about this country and yet every day people are beating each other up over this very thing. The name calling, and degrading of others is beyond sad. This election has brought out the worst in a lot of people and I for one am ashamed of how we are looking to the rest of the world.
We all need to look at our own time lines and ask ourselves what would our  mothers think about them, what would  "Grandma" think about them. What would the person who we  hold at the highest esteem think of it. Now ask yourself is this the side you want your children and grandchildren to see.   Because when the dust settles we all still have to live with how we conducted ourselves .

"Eye in the Sky" A Movie Review

When I first saw the trailer for "Eye in the Sky"  I knew it was one of those movies I should see.  You know the ones, the films that have an important message and ask  poignant questions.

These stories'  purpose seem not to be one of just entertainment,  but one which needs the audience to ask itself  significant questions. They cause us to reflect and contemplate the acts and actions of people around us. I for one love these type of movies, maybe it's the lit major in me but I've always enjoyed films that have a message and make me think .
"Eye in the Sky"  is one of these.

As the story begins we see Helen Mirren as Col. Katherine Powell, a British officer who is  overseeing a mission to capture terrorists who are are on  the top of an international wanted list.  The story unfolds and her mission escalates quickly changing into a complicated set of circumstances.  It morphs from a simple capture to the question of  acceptable collateral damage- even if the collateral damage is an innocent.

This is just one of the questions asked and argued at White Hall among several British Officials.  This debate is a means to get the audience to ask it'self some tough questions.   One of the points it hammers home is how easy it is to sit thousands of miles away and push a button causing death and destruction to the guilty but also to the innocent.

This movie is not a "good time" but it is done extremely well with a phenomenal cast and which requires the viewer to take a side and support their choice.   In a world where these type of  situations seem to be on the rise in areas we presumed to be safe (a concert in Paris) we have to start facing the choices we are making in the name of security and peace.

Something New

I've struggled at times to find the time to keep up with a blog.  Honestly I think it's just something I forget about and then I'm shocked at the amount of time that seems to race by.  On that note I've been thinking of something new I might want to try.

So here we go.   I'm going to try and do movie reviews as well as possibly book reviews.   I'm also going to just do "topic"  writing but we'll see where it goes.   So stay tuned.
